The Port Tobacco Players

presents:

Hotbed Hotel

by Michael Parker

April 4 - April 20, 2008

Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm

Sundays at 3:00 pm

Tickets:  Adults - $15, Students/Seniors: $12

  Call 301-932-6819 for reservations

(Comedy)  Terry and Brian Cody are hoping to sell their "One Star Hotel" in the Florida Keys to the only man who has expressed any interest in buying it. Unfortunately they have so few guests, they're afraid he will see at once that the hotel is a bad investment. In order to bolster his interest, they devise a ploy to make the hotel appear busier and more prosperous than it actually is by having their staff masquerade as paying guests, but their plan has one hitch. Their entire staff consists of a bibulous maintenance man and a sexy, scatterbrained housemaid who can't seem to remain completely clothed, leading to a "hotbed" of intrigue culminating in a show-stopping coup-de-theatre. A hilarious comedy that will leave Fawlty Towers looking like a tragedy.

RECEPTION & MEET THE AUTHOR:  The Producer and Director of the April comedy Hotbed Hotel have made arrangements for a reception on opening night of the show, Friday, April 4th.  The reception will be held at The Crossing at Casey Jones following the performance.  Everyone attending the show is invited to join us for complimentary hors d'oeuvres with a cash bar and an opportunity to meet the author of the play, Mr. Michael Parker.  Mr. Parker and his wife will fly in from Florida for the reception.

DIRECTOR'S WORKSHOP:  Join Mr. Parker and Director Mike Gahan before the show on Friday, April 4th from 6:45 to 7:15 pm as they discuss the genre of the American farce and the writing and staging of the comedy of
Hotbed Hotel.  This will be a question and answer session.

ACTING CLASS:  On Saturday, April 5th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Mr. Parker will present a class in comedic acting.

DINNER PARTNERS:  The Dinner Partners program will be in effect for the run of Hotbed Hotel and will feature Ouzo's Greek and Regional Cuisine, El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant and the Greene Turtle Restaurant.
Additional information will be forthcoming.

The Katrina Monologues

On the morning of August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall at southeast Louisiana causing severe damage along the Gulf Coast . In the aftermath of the storm, the federal flood protection system in New Orleans failed in more than fifty places and nearly every levee breached exposing a major American city unprepared to respond to the rising waters.

In a series of ten stirring monologues, singer-songwriter and playwright Tom Flannery tells the stories of those forgotten by the most powerful among us. Please join us for this fundraiser for the Black Box Theatre and the American Red Cross.

The cast includes Nicole Carter, Rhonda Carter, Charmian Crawford, Felipe Harris, and Jared Shamberger, and features live performances by Washington , DC , bluesman Michael Baytop.

In Ms. Daubus's homeroom, basketball team Captain Troy discovers that a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, named Gabriella, has just enrolled at East High. In the hallway, Troy and Gabriella notice the sign-up sheet for the school musical and are curious about signing up. When the drama diva, Sharpay, hears about this she tries to discourage it. Much to Sharpay's dismay, Troy and Gabriella end up getting the callback. When she finds this out, she does everything in her power to make sure that Gabriella and Troy can't make the callback. Can Troy and Gabriella break out of their cliques while remaining loyal to themselves?

Please join us for the annual spring clean-up at the Hard Bargain Players Amphitheatre
THIS Saturday, April 26th, 2008, at 1:00 pm!

We need volunteers to help us get ready for our 2008 summer season HBP's first show of 2008 - Talley's Folly - opens May 2nd

If you have them bring them ...
  • gloves
  • rakes
  • tarps
  • leaf blowers
  • trucks
  • rags
  • cleaning supplies
  • trash bags/contractor bags
We need to remove the leaves from the house, gravel road and the walk-way.  We also need to clean the bathrooms.  If there is time, a truck and folks are willing we may also make a run to the dump - but the main thing is to get the space performance ready by removing the leaves, clearing the pathways and cleaning the bathrooms.  The more people that come out to help - the less time it will take!

If you have any questions or need more information please e-mail or call Suzanne Donohue (Hard Bargain Players Managing Artistic Director) dromio94@yahoo.com  301-392-9901
