Ticket Prices: $15/adults; $12/seniors (60 and older) and youth (thru high school) Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tells the classic Biblical tale of Jacob and his twelve sons. Young Joseph, the second youngest brother and most favored son, is given a beautiful, multi-colored coat by his father. With this gift also comes the enmity of his jealous brothers, who sell him as a slave to a band of passing Ishmaelites. Hoping to rid themselves of Joseph forever, the brothers instead set in motion a powerful string of events which lead to Joseph's installation as the Pharaoh's right hand man. An inspiring and hilarious journey brought to life by Andrew Lloyd Webber's wide range of musical stylings, Joseph offers a story of forgiveness, love, and redemption. Don't miss this colorful, family friendly story with universal themes, energetic dancing and powerful music! |

Christ Church Concerts is pleased to present
Coral Cantigas, directed by Diana Saez, on Sunday, April 15, at 3:00
p.m. The choral ensemble will be joined by guest artists, Dani Cortaza, guitar, and Marvette Perez,
percussion, in songs from Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. Now in its 16th year, Coral Cantigas is the only chorus in the Washington, D.C., area that specializes in the performance of music from Latin America, Spain, and the Caribbean. Through performances and workshops, Coral Cantigas shares the artistic and cultural diversity of the Spanish-speaking world and serves as a bridge between the Spanish-speaking and non-Spanish-speaking communities. The choir performs in Spanish, Portuguese, and a variety of American languages and dialects such as Nahuatl, Quechua and Creole, with bilingual concert program notes and texts. The choir is named after cantigas, Spanish homophonic songs of the 13th Century that develop from both folkloric music and sacred chant. Coral Cantigas' repertoire ranges from folk music and popular song performed with folk instruments to classical works with orchestra. The choir performs sacred and secular music of many traditions. Diana V. Saez is the founder and artistic director of Coral Cantigas, a chorus that, prior to her arrival in 1991, had no precedent in the greater Washington metropolitan area outside of local Latin American and Caribbean community churches. A native of Puerto Rico, Diana earned a Master of Education from Harvard University, and a Master of Choral Conducting from Temple University. In October 2003 she received the Tony Taylor Award, presented by the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington, for her artistic excellence and noticeable assistance to artists in our region. In December 2002 she was awarded the Arts in the Community Award for Excellence 2002, given by the Montgomery County (MD) Executive Douglas Duncan and Discovery Communications, Inc., for her major contribution to the quality of life in Montgomery County through the arts. In 1999, she received the Poder con Ganas Award presented by the Hispanic Democratic Club of Montgomery County in recognition of outstanding and sustained leadership in empowering the Latin American community. This concert is funded by freewill offerings of music-lovers in southern Maryland and by a grant from the Charles County Arts Alliance and the Maryland State Arts Council. Historic Christ Church is located at 112 East Charles Street in downtown La Plata, Maryland. There is ample parking behind the church and adjacent county government buildings. The church is handicapped-accessible. The concert will be followed by a light reception in the parish hall which will afford listeners an opportunity to greet the musicians and one another. Please call (301) 392-1051 for further information. |

Mature young actors are cool, too! * Elizabeth Ann - teens / early twenties *Chorus - teens - thirties *Mr. and Mrs. Willows - thirties / forties AUDITIONS.....The Hard Bargain Players and director Sara Vacin announce auditions for the And They Dance Real Slow in Jackson on Thursday, April 19th at 7 pm at the HBP Amphitheatre (2001 Bryan Point Road, Accokeek). Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. For more information contact HBP at 301-392-9901 or e-mail Suzanne_Donohue@hbplayers.org. If you are interested in auditioning, but are unable to attend the auditions, please contact us for an audition appointment. Also if you are interested in helping out in a technical capacity please contact us! The production will perform June 22 - July 7 Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm SYNOPSIS - In Jackson, a small town in rural Indiana, Elizabeth Ann Willow lives with her father and mother. Crippled at birth with polio, Elizabeth Ann is confined to a wheelchair and must wear leg braces, which cuts her off from the other children and prevents her regular attendance at school. Although she tries to reach out and make friends, Elizabeth Ann is increasingly isolated from and then taunted by the others, whose small-town prejudices are reinforced by a polio scare, of which Elizabeth Ann is a chilling embodiment. Comprised of a brilliantly conceived mosaic of interlocking scenes which move back and forth in time, with four performers portraying a varied assortment of children and townspeople, the play captures not only the moving story of Elizabeth Ann's inexorable descent into madness, but also the small-mindedness and unfeeling callousness of her fellow townspeople—whose fear of the unknown or abnormal makes them the unintentional agents of her destruction. Culminating in a chilling scene in which Elizabeth Ann's leg braces are torn from her by a frenzied mob, the play becomes in the final essence a moving and poetically evocative plea for understanding and compassion in a world where prejudice and casual cruelty are too often the norm. Hard Bargain is a non-professional community theatre located 15 minutes south of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Accokeek, Maryland. Our performance and rehearsal space is a naturally occurring outdoor amphitheatre, beautifully nestled in the woods. Although the space can be magical, we do contend with the elements and offer few of the amenities found in a more urban or suburban setting |
