The Port Tobacco Players present:

1940's Radio Hour  (Nov. 23 - Dec. 9, 2007)
by Walton Jones

MUSICAL COMEDY; Family Christmas Show: The spirit of a bygone era is evoked in this show with music by various composers. The world was at war and pop music meant "The Chattanooga Choo-Choo" and the "Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy." This is a look at behind the scenes radio as you view a live, Christmas time broadcast of a musical variety hour from the Hotel Astor's Algonquin Room on December 21, 1942; The Mutual Manhattan Variety cavalcade. An exhilarating hour of singing, dancing and funny commercials.

A Dickens Christmas

Saturday, December 15, 2007, 7:30 p.m.

Enjoy A Christmas Musical Celebration Presented In The Style Of The Romantic Era

The Chesapeake Choral Arts Society will present “A Dickens Christmas” on December 15, at 7:30 p.m. The Schubert Singers will make a guest appearance. A variety of music appropriate to the era will be presented including Beethoven’s “Hallelujah Chorus” from Mount of Olives, Offenbach’s “Beggars’ Canon”, “He Watching Over Israel” from Elijah by Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff’s “Rejoice, O Virgin” (in the original Russian), and many others, including some familiar carols. The performance will be in the form of a “salon” of the period and will include some readings and a party game as would have been typical of the Romantic Period. “A Dickens Christmas” will be performed at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 3235 Leonardtown Rd., Waldorf, MD. A reception will follow the concert. The Chesapeake Choral Arts Society is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive. Partial funding is also provided by the Charles County Arts Alliance whose mission is to stimulate, promote, encourage, and provide recognition of the arts and the creative spirit, donations, and membership fees. To obtain a flyer or more information please contact Carol Charnock at 240-254-2068, or 301-642-0594.
