The Port Tobacco Players announces ENCORE KIDS AUDITIONS

Thursday, January 24 at 7:00 pm
Saturday, January 26 at 10:00 am
(Snow Date: Thursday, January 31 at 7:00 pm)

Auditions will be held at the Port Tobacco Players Theater, 508 Charles Street in La Plata, MD.
 
Kids should come prepared to:
 * sing a memorized (preferably Broadway-style) song - be sure to bring either:
   - sheet music for the accompanist
   - a karaoke-style CD or
   - a karaoke-style cassette tape, cued to the appropriate song
   - accompaniments must be free of vocals; do NOT plan to sing-along with a recorded voice
   - contemporary pop-style music is NOT encouraged
 
 * recite a short, memorized monologue (a poem or short nursery rhyme is fine - preferably NOT the Pledge of Allegiance)

Kids need to be between the ages of 6 and 12 years old at the time of auditions.
 
Kids and their parents should be prepared to make a major time commitment for the year to ENCORE KIDS should the child be offered a place in the group.

The Maryland Community Theatre Festival Association brings the weekend-long competition back to the Port Tobacco Players Theatre in La Plata.  Last year, PTP's entry, Never Swim Alone went all the way to Nationals and will be performed as a showcase piece to start off the festival this year.

The Chesapeake Choral Arts Society has begun its spring rehearsal calendar. 

Love to sing?  Enjoy the music of the masters?  Come join The Chesapeake Choral Arts Society (CCAS).  The CCAS rehearsal/performance year runs from the end of August to mid-June. 

Rehearsals are Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at the La Plata United Methodist Church , La Plata , Maryland located at the corner of Routes 6 and 301.  

Auditions, for the purpose of placement (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), will be held at 7:00 pm on January 14, 2008.  Call Carol Charnock at 301-642-0594 or 240-254-2068 for an audition appointment.  

High School and College students are welcome to join this Adult Choral group.  

The Chesapeake Choral Arts Society (CCAS) was formed in 1996 to provide an opportunity for residents of Charles County and Southern Maryland to sing and perform complex choral compositions.  Members are selected through auditions and pay an annual membership fee.  High school and college students of great musical promise are invited to participate with CCAS as scholarship students.  Currently 44 members comprise the Society.  New voices are always welcome. 

The Chesapeake Choral Arts Society is dedicated to the performance and promotion of choral music in the Southern Maryland communities.

Sunday, January 27th from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at the Port Tobacco Theater in La Plata

"Ms. Cooper was a rising vocalist with many accomplishments including PBS Television to arias in opera houses; then one day her voice was gone.  You will be entertained throughout the performance which tells her story and how she discovered her voice once again."

Complimentary wine and cheese will be served before the show and during intermission.  Doors open at 2:30 pm

Enjoy a night of Blue Grass music. Jay Armsworthy and Eastern Tradition, Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Nanjemoy Community Center.

Jay Armsworthy & Eastern Tradition plays a variety of "hard-driving" Bluegrass music. The band's repertoire consists of traditional Bluegrass, original ballads, energized instrumentals, and old-time gospel. With their own arrangements, Jay Armsworthy inserts a "punch" and a "drive" into Bluegrass music that enthuses  audiences of all ages. Enjoy a delicious spaghetti dinner before the show sponsored by Nanjemoy Senior Center Council.

Dinner will be served 5:30 to 6:45pm. The show begins at 7:00pm. 

Tickets for residents are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Non-resident tickets are $17 in advance and $22 at the door.
