On Oct. 21, at Christ Church in La Plata, the Music Teachers Association of Charles County, Inc., will present its 6th in a series of teacher performances, and will also be hosting a wood artist from Johnstown, PA.

The event is called, "Come for the Art, Stay for the Music."

Sally Stewart is an artist working in a number of media, but her show will be primarily of her wood pieces. Using Bible passages as her inspiration, Sally has created many works, using woods from sources around the world.

Ms. Stewart will also be showing the piece she created as a commemoration of the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.  Sally incorporated pieces of the World Trade Center which she was privileged to select from the Staten Island rubble site. Using wood from every country which lost a citizen that day, she developed her artwork using the Bible passage which tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God. The work is very powerful.

The church itself will be available for touring, and the artist will give a talk afterward.  The basic time schedule is:
Art viewing:   1:30 - 2:30
Concert:        2:30 - 3:30
Art viewing:   3:30 - closing at 5
Artist-talk:     4:00

Hard Bargain Players present: Devour the Snow

by Abe Polsky

October 5 - 20, 2007

Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm

Tickets are $12 for Adults and $10 for Students, Seniors, and Alice Ferguson Foundation Members. Cash or check only.

The action takes place at Sutter's Fort, in northern California, in 1847. Lewis Keseberg, a German emigrant and survivor of the tragic Donner Party expedition, has brought a suit for slander against several other survivors, who have accused him of being a grave robber and murderer. As the trial testimony proceeds the awful facts of the expedition's demise are revealed---the heavy snows which trapped them in the mountains; the starvation and death of women and children; the desperation which drove the few survivors to cannibalize the corpses of the dead. Keseberg does not deny the horror of what occurred, or the madness which made him a party to it, but he cannot live with the accusation that he deliberately killed for food and that he robbed the graves of the deceased. Ultimately he wins his case, but not before it is made eloquently clear that all involved will be burdened until the end of their lives with the terrible, numbing anguish of what they went through.

Pretty senior Toffee has fallen for the class bad boy, Jonny Warner. Family pressure forces her to end the romance, and he charges off on his motorcycle to the nuclear waste dump. He returns glowing and determined to reclaim Toffee's heart. He still wants to graduate, but most of all he wants to take Toffee to the prom. The principal orders him to drop dead while a scandal reporter seizes on him as the freak du jour. History comes to his rescue while a tuneful selection of original songs in the style of 50's hits keeps the action rocking across the stage.
