The Korean American Association of Southern Maryland (KAASM) and the  Korean American Cultural Arts Foundation (KACAF) would like to invite you to  the upcoming 2nd annual Recital of Korean Master Players to be held at the  Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall & Arts Center at NOVA's Alexandria  Campus, Sunday, September 16, 2007 at 6:00 PM. This event is in honor of the  anniversary of the Korean national anthem.

The evening's events will include performances by Korean cultural arts  masters called Intangible Cultural Assets.  Each master is officially  recognized and designated by the Nation of Korea to be the standard bearer  for each unique traditional art form.   By this method, each traditional  performer is a part of Korea's living history.  The opportunity to meet and  see so many masters performing at one time is very rare, even within the  country of Korea.

Our associations continue to grow and increase the scope and scale of its civic activities and contributions, including meaningful,
highly-attended demonstrations of cultural heritage and art, launching a Korean language school, engaging with local senior citizens who make up a significant part of our membership, hosting several events, such as this  recital and implementing a scholarship and grant program for local students.

Due to the high-quality programs, word has spread to our sister state, Virginia, and citizens of Virginia have requested that KAASM and the  Foundation conduct programs and presentations for their communities as well.  This is a GREAT opportunity for Southern Maryland to show how highly  regarded our cultural arts activities are not just here, but throughout the  DC Metro area; it is truly an accomplishment, considering the amount of  high-quality programs that are already offered in Virginia!  This sharing  of cultural presentations and community interest provide a valuable platform  for Southern Maryland to come together to work toward common, shared  interests across state lines.  For this reason, we have invited public  leaders from both Virginia and Maryland.

In addition, because our educators are increasingly working in culturally diverse classrooms and are  one of the most important pillars in teaching cross-cultural education and  understanding, admission is free to all Virginia and Maryland educators.

Instructions for all Maryland and Virginia educators who would like to attend:

Space for this event is limited, so we can only offer free tickets to  educators on a first come first serve basis.  They must RSVP by Friday,  September 7, to attend.

All Virginia and Maryland educators are free of charge with registration  and official school ID, but all other attendees must pay the $60 ticket  charge.

If educators are interested in attending, please send the following  information to tammy.pantages@hotmail.com:

 Full Name:
