Arts Summit Summary

Priority Vision Element Chart from February 10, 2007

Thank you to all who participated in the Charles County Arts Survey.  Over 350 people responded and provided comments that will be very useful to the Arts Vision 2020 Team!  Thank you for your input!

Arts Summit Followup Meeting

Held on June 23, 2007

Action Teams met on Saturday, June 23, 2007 from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon in the conference room of the United Way building (10250 La Plata Road, La Plata, MD) for their final meeting.  Each team worked on finalizing goals, recommendations, and strategies to be incorporated into the Arts Vision 2020 document that the writers will work on over the summer and beginning of the fall.  The next gathering should be a perusal of the Arts Vision 2020 document.

Thank you to all Action Team members who worked for many months meeting, brainstorming, and gathering data for the sake of the future of the Charles County arts community!

Thank you also to all who participated in the Charles County Arts Survey.  We received over 350 responses, about 1/3 of which included comments: suggestions for improvements; recognition of improvements already seen; and some heartfelt expressions of discouragement and dissatisfaction. We sincerely appreciate all these comments, the positive, encouraging ones as well as those that expressed frustration, for together these comments will assist the Arts Vision 2020 Team in sensing the pulse of the Charles County Arts Community.  Survey results will be posted to the CCAA website in the near future.

Arts Summit Followup Meeting

Held on MAY 12, 2007

On Saturday, May 12, 2007, members of the Arts Vision 2020 Team met for a fourth time since the Arts Summit.  ACTION TEAM members reviewed all past and new data gathered to date, continually referring to the original goals established at the Arts Summit and in the earlier meetings of the ACTION TEAMS.  Two writers from each team were "selected" and all members left the meeting with new data gathering assignments. Each team should return in June with a rough draft of their team's goals, strategies, and recommendations as we begin the writing stage of this strategic planning exercise.

Public information survey coming soon!  Please participate when it is available

Arts Summit Followup Meeting

Held on APRIL 14, 2007

On Saturday, April 14, 2007, members of the Arts Vision 2020 Team met for a third time since the Arts Summit.  The majority of the three-hour meeting was spent in ACTION TEAMS as members took a look at the current state of the arts in Charles County, reviewed goals for their particular action team, looked at data collected to date, and made assignments and plans to collect data that still needs to be gathered.

A survey to gather information from any/all citizens will be published soon.  It will be available online and in print.  Please check back and participate in the survey when it is available.

Arts Summit Followup Meeting

Held on March 3, 2007

On Saturday, March 3, 2007, members of the Arts Vision 2020 Team met for a second time since the Arts Summit. This time the four Action Teams (I-Arts Development; II-Arts Education; III-Arts Programming; and IV-Arts Venues and Facilities) revisited the priorities that were set last month, and made team member assignments for data collection that will establish and support any recommendations the Team makes in its strategic plan for the arts for Charles County.

All arts stakeholders are reminded that their participation is most welcome in this continuing effort to document our vision for the arts in Charles County! The next working meeting of the entire Arts Vision 2020 Team will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007 in the meeting room of the United Way building on Route 488 in La Plata. For more information, please call the CCAA office at 301-392-5900.

Arts Summit Followup Meeting

Held on February 10, 2007

On Saturday, February 10, 2007, about forty people came together to participate in the first followup meeting to the Arts Summit that was held on October 21, 2006.  I am confident that those in attendance would agree that a genuine excitement filled the air: lots of energy focused on developing a strategic plan for the arts in Charles County; attitudes that emanated a "can do" spirit!

After an initial refresher of the summit and a review of the data that came forth from it, all in attendance broke out into 4 action teams, selecting that one area about which an individual was most passionate, or with which he/she had the most experience:  I. Arts Development, II. Arts Education, III. Arts Programming, and IV. Arts Venues and Facilities.  Each team then prioritized the vision elements and reported the top six or so when we all regrouped for a closing plenary session.

The Action Teams will continue to meet over the next six months, sharing ideas and research, making plans and developing strategies, all the while honing in on a visionary document: Arts Vision 2020, a Strategic Plan for the Arts in Charles County , Maryland .

It is not too late to be a player in this visioning process.  The next meeting will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2007 from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon in the Meeting Room of the United Way Building in La Plata , MD.   Please let us know if you will be in attendance.  Respond by Tuesday, February 27, 2007 , either by email (info@charlescountyarts.org) or telephone (301-392-5900).  If it appears that our numbers will preclude us from using the assigned meeting room, we will inform you of a change of venue to a larger location, if available.

Please download a copy of the Summit Summary at http://charlescountyarts.org/Arts_Summit_Summary.pdf if you would like more details.

State Delegate Peter Murphy joined the Summit Followup Meeting, as did County Commissioners Sam Graves and Gary Hodge.

Charles County Arts Summit Followup Meeting:

Saturday, February 10, 2007

Several times over the past year, and most recently at the first-ever Charles County Arts Summit in October 2006, Charles County residents and arts stakeholders brainstormed and shared ideas about the future of the arts in Charles County - a process entitled Arts Vision 2020.  At the Arts Summit, these ideas were discussed in more detail and categorized under several general headings.  A summary document of the results of the summit was then drawn up and, although not yet a plan for the arts, it is available for public viewing at the link above.

The Charles County Arts Alliance's Arts Vision 2020 Committee now invites Charles County citizens who are interested in proceeding with this visioning process to attend the first Arts Summit Followup Meeting on Saturday, February 10, 2007 from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon (snow date: February 17) in the Meeting Room of the United Way building, 10250 La Plata Road (Route 488 - beside the Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center) in La Plata.  It is time to focus in on these categories that summarize our goals, and to develop a strategic plan to bring them to fruition.  To make the Arts Vision a reality, your time, energy, and participation is needed!

Please let the Charles County Arts Alliance know if you will be in attendance.  Respond either by email or telephone (301-392-5900).  Thank you for your continued interest in Arts Vision 2020.
