on FRIDAY Evening:

River
Artsfest Circle of Song
with
Tom Wisner & Friends
Kick-off River
Artsfest on Friday evening, June 8, 2007 at 8:00 pm in
the
Indian
Head
Center
for the Arts Black Box Theatre as Tom Wisner, Mac
Walter, DEANNA DOVE and the
Royal Oak
Musicians (Ed Klein and Lynn
Henderson
) come together for a real old-fashioned CIRCLE OF SONG!
Tom
Wisner is an everyday folk edu-tainer! He has the
training of both a naturalist and an artist and he has
been effective in designing programs to raise a love of
this region into the awareness of everyday folks.
Tom's song lyrics, poems and line drawings are
published in many articles and books about the Bay
country, and his albums of songs are now included in the
National Museum as part of the Smithsonian Folkways
Collection.
Three-time
WAMMIE winner Mac Walter is known in the regional business of music as the
'professor of the guitar.' He is a top professional in
music doing folk, jazz and rock guitar originals and
back-up ... he can mesmerize an audience with his
mastery of this instrument. In addition to this Mac
brings a presence of warmth and friendship that brings
peace into a community gathering.
Meet
the Royal Oak
Musicians! Ed
Klein is a unique songster in the Chesapeake
region who writes songs about the waterways and those
who work on the waters to earn a living. Indeed, he
writes the songs the water folks sing! Lynn
Henderson is an accomplished guitarist and singer,
performing Ed's songs, regional songs, and
carrying a few of her own lyrics in her song bag as
well. She brings a down home quality of a bluesy folk
lady styling to the circle.
Deanna
Dove, a multi-talented musician has established a
reputation as a powerful, earthy roots-rock singer, a
talented guitarist and distinctive songwriter. She's won
a loyal audience for her ability to craft songs about
the Chesapeake Bay to include elements of rock, blues,
R&B, pop, country and gospel into a distinctly
individual style that has earned her the accolade of
"musical Nirvana."
The
gathering on stage will emulate the kinds of gatherings
that rambling songsters often experience in the off
hours together after the dust settles around a set of
local performances done for audiences ... it will attempt
to build the sharing camaraderie that grows easily among
singers when they settle down together to experience the
stuff they love best ... the joy will be in sharing the
infective quality of that informal camaraderie with an
audience ... songs will emerge as the spirit moves
around the group... being ever mindful of the intent of
River Artsfest - to raise awareness of the waterways and
environment through the arts.
Chesapeake
tunes, sea chanties, Bay folklore, and warm
Southern Maryland
hospitality in an intimate setting - what better way to
kick-off our River Artsfest weekend? There
are only 84 seats in the theater, so this is a chance to
be up-close-and-personal with some truly talented
musicians who treasure the
Chesapeake Bay
and work to protect her environment.
Tickets
for the Circle of Song are $10 each. Call 800-494-8497
for reservations today!
