River Artsfest is  a celebration of ALL the arts:  music, visual arts, drama, dance, and literature.  Below is an alphabetical listing of many of the artists registered to show and sell their work (continually being updated).  We welcome all artists!  Because of the large area on the Village Green in Indian Head, there is still room for more visual and literary artists, so don't hesitate to register.  If you want to check on space availability, please call the Charles County Arts Alliance at 301-392-5900.

Heather Bartlett and William Hardy - 

Allzah Art

Heather is a multi-media artist.  Her work includes paintings on canvas, collage, photography, and clay.  Her themes are fairies, mermaids, elemental, inspirational, the feminine spirit, shoes, nature, size politics and the plus-size woman.  

Will works in whatever medium seems appropriate to pursue an idea, including digital photography, drawing, painting, sculpture and construction, sound and video production with a focus on retro sci-fi, architecture, and rhythmic pattern.

Holly Bednar -

Farragut Films, Inc.

A non-profit film company producing Science Fiction movies available for free on the internet.  Starship Farragut is an independent film series based on the original series of Star Trek.  Starship Farragut is based on the crew of the U.S.S. Farragut, a Constitution Class Starship (NCC-1647) commanded by Captain John T. Carter, and takes place during the time of legendary Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise (NCC-1701).
Susan Marie Boarman Susan uses black and white in many of her pencil drawings to create a sense of the past.  In other drawings she prefers rich natural colors to capture the beauty of today's Southern Maryland landscape or the sun reflecting through the clouds of the Potomac River.  All of Susan’s drawings are of real places in Southern Maryland. Most are visible along the back roads.  At River Artsfest, Susan will have original pencil drawings, professionally reproduced prints, and notecards for sale.

Southern Maryland Carousel Group

The Southern Maryland Carousel Group, Inc., was established in 2004 with a vision to construct and operate an Old-World style carousel, a museum, and a learning center.  Now imagine that carousel right here in Charles County, Maryland!  That is our wildest dream... Several completed (hand-carved and painted) carousel animals will be on display at River Artsfest  and you will have the opportunity to have your picture taken on them before they are ever placed on the carousel, which is to be located in Laurel Springs Park in La Plata.
College of Southern Maryland Fine Arts The College of Southern Maryland will present an informational booth about the Fine Arts Department.  Instructor Ada Van Hecke will be doing a variety of ceramic/pottery demonstrations throughout the day.

Corner Studio Artworks

Corner Studio Artists

The Corner Studio is a private studio located in La Plata, MD that is open to local artists for classes and workshops organized through the Charles County Arts Alliance. At least once a week the Corner Studio has “Open Studio” time for local artists. An ongoing project at the studio is the painting of the carousel horses for the Southern Maryland Carousel Group, Inc.  

Corner Studio ArtWorks is a company in which the artwork created in the Corner Studio is sold in the form of Giclee Prints and on Fine Art Note Cards. Other personalized photo and printing services are also available. The soon-to-be-launched website, www.cornerstudioartworks.com,  will showcase the artists, classes, and events of the Corner Studio as well as provide a web presence for other local artists and related groups. At River Artsfest, original artworks, prints, and notecards by Corner Studio artists Jane Bush, Betty Carney, Pat Lally, Ann Maggi, Connie Miller, Betty Musial, Mary Wilmoth and others will be available for sale, and festival goers will have the opportunity to try their hands at drawing upside-down!   
M. Evelyn Dashiell decorative painted glassware, wine caddies, wooden trays, fabric/embroidered aprons, and more
Janet Davis Janet handcrafts designer jewelry using quality jewelry findings and gemstone quality beads.  She also creates fused glass jewelry and fused glass plates and vases. 
Harry Frauenfelder Harry enjoys painting with acrylics.
Kitty and Gary Frick Kitty has been weaving baskets for over 10 years.  She incorporates her own handmade pottery into her baskets.  

For over 20 years, Gary has been designing and making stained glass pieces.  He has recently begun to work with kiln-formed glass as well.

Expressing themselves through collage, photography, and words, the Patuxent Arts and Literary Partners combine poetry, altered art, and photographs to create unique art pieces.

Mark plays a variety of instruments, using music to calm, soothe, and heal.  At last year's River Artsfest, Mark showed people how to create bamboo flutes and allowed some to make them on site.  Well, due to popular demand, Mark's returning to make flutes again this year.

Husband and wife, Dave and Marta Kelsey, offer an eclectic selection of hand-crafted items.  Dave specializes in custom designed furniture:  wood benches, tables, lamps, and home furnishings in a modified mission style.  Marta carves, dyes, paints, and decorates gourds and fashions them into wall hangings, vases, bowls, and baskets.
Mary Kercher - 

Beads in a Bag & Other Fabrications

Original beaded jewelry sold in handmade jewelry bags, plus unique ribbon necklaces in 25 different color combinations with earrings to match.  Mary also enjoys watercolors and will be selling some watercolor paintings as well.

Bill Penn's work  is truly delightful!  His ceramic and mixed media pieces bring smiles to the faces of many who behold them.  Don't be surprised to see frogs, iguanas, and goofy gourd birds. Often described as "wacky, whimsical, and wonderful," Bill's work will attract an audience and bring joy to many festival goers.

Cliff and Lorelei Ransome photograph still life pictures, mainly landscapes, flowers, animals, monuments, waterscapes, and barns.  Because Cliff has Parkinson's Disease and a strong desire to contribute to the research efforts to find a cure, a percentage of their sales goes toward Parkinson's Disease research.

Jonathan pursues photography and computer-generated art.

Julie Schneider -

Things-in-Glass

 Julie places pieces of lace, fabric, needle work, patches, and more in glass.  She cuts her own glass and frames each piece with copper foil.  She solders chain to each piece so it can be hung .  She also makes small stained glass items. 

The Shoppes at River View - 

Home of the Southern Maryland Folk Art Center

The Shoppes at River View will be represented by Ch'NaCa Farms & Fiber and Busy "B"s Baskets.  Someone will be spinning & selling fiber and basket makers will be on hand as well. They  will also have hand painted glass and hand made jewelry.
Robert Wayt Smith Fine artist and illustrator working in oils, pencils, silverpoint, and watercolor.  Subjects vary from classic portraiture to fantasy illustrations.
Mary Sokol Oil paintings including an original technique of painting oils on metal in order to let the surface of the metal shine through as part of the composition.  Her favorite painting themes include nature and animals plus paintings of travels in Asia, Australia, Africa, South America and North America.  Mary has had several solo shows and has sold art throughout the nation and internationally as well.
Mary Agnes Swann -

Mattawoman Creek Art Center

Mary Agnes will present an informational booth about visual arts and the Mattawoman Creek Art Center, located in Smallwood State Park, Marbury, MD. Artwork from the Mattawoman Creek Art Center Gift Shop will be available for purchase.
Lucretia Dewey Tanner Lu's work consists of acrylic painting on paper and canvas, both traditional and abstract.  All pieces are framed and original only... no reprints or computer images.
Michelle R. West Michelle throws pottery, creating one-of-a-kind pieces:  mugs, flower pots, bowls, oil lamps, and miscellaneous ceramic pieces.  She intends to bring her wheel to River Artsfest and do throwing demonstrations.
Amy White Handcrafted and originally designed jewelry featuring Swarovski crystal as well as natural and semi-precious stones finished in sterling silver.  Custom orders are available.
Libushe Zorin Libushe focuses on woodcarving and woodburning.  She comes to River Artsfest prepared to work on projects and demonstrate her artwork.
