CCAA at the Fair!
CCAA had a great time at the Charles County Fair last month! — it was great to see so many old friends and acquaintances as we helped to showcase the incredible talents of visual artists of all ages from around the community. We hope that you were able to visit the P.D. Brown Building while you were at the fair. The Arts Alliance continued its longstanding tradition of managing the artwork submissions — from the managed chaos of accepting and processing all artwork submissions, to the late-night frenzy to get them all hung before judging, and then to the joy of watching a steady stream of art-lovers enjoy the exhibit — it is one of our favorite activities of the year.
This year’s fair was special for the CCAA as we kicked off our 25th Anniversary Celebration. The Charles County Arts Alliance sponsored its very first nominee for Fair Queen, the 77th Queen Nicotina: Ms. Amber Rabie, a senior at Lackey High School. And the best part is . . . Amber won!!!
Amber is the daughter of Sharon Rabie and (the deceased) Fabian Rabie of Indian Head. Amber was selected from a group of 14 young ladies vying for the honor. Final selection took place on the basis of her scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, poise and appearance, and presentation.
Throughout the next three days of the Fair, Amber presided as Fair Queen, visiting all the exhibit buildings and other areas, posing for photos, and welcoming all to this year’s Charles County Fair. She also presided over our CCAA 25th Anniversary Celebration festivities on Sunday afternoon, September 16. Amber was just lovely, a radiant Queen Nicotina!
