Announcing 2013 Arts Scholarship Program
High School and CSM Applications Due May 1
The Charles County Arts Alliance is announcing its annual Arts Scholarship Program, which awards a $1000 scholarship to an outstanding graduate at each Charles County public high school and the College of Southern Maryland (CSM). The scholarships are designated for students planning to attend a four-year college or university in fall 2013 and majoring in the performing, visual or literary arts leading to a professional career in the arts.
The Alliance’s Arts Scholarship Program commenced in 1999, and to date has supported the higher education academic pursuits of over 50 talented and creative Charles County students in music, visual art, drama, dance and literature. The scholarship recipients are publicly announced during the Senior Awards Night at the six county high schools in June, and the CSM graduate recipient is notified by letter.
CCAA Education Committee Chair Kathleen Jenkins stated, “The Charles County Arts Alliance is very pleased that we can support those students who are interested in majoring in the arts at college. We believe that the arts are an important aspect of culture and society, and they contribute to both community pride and economic well-being. By supporting these students and funding other local arts programs, we support our communities.”
All scholarship recipients must be Charles County residents and have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA). An application is required, which includes a detailed resume, 500-word essay, letter of recommendation, and official transcript. The deadline for receipt of all scholarship applications is May 1, 2013. Applications are available at each county high school and CSM through the college/career counseling offices and also are available here

ArtsFest is returning to La Plata this year and will once again bring the festivities to the lawn surrounding the beautiful La Plata Town Hall. Last year’s ArtsFest showcased over 60 artists and exhibitors at the La Plata Town Hall, along with musical and dance entertainment at several locations on the lawn. ArtsFest 2013 promises to be even more spectacular, with several special events taking place throughout the day.
