Arts Alliance Accepting Applications for the Gallery Committee

Interested in Visual Arts? The Charles County Arts Alliance (CCAA) is accepting applications for several volunteer openings on its Gallery Committee. CCAA manages multiple gallery spaces in Charles County, including the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center Gallery, the Commissioners Gallery in the Charles County Government Building in La Plata, and four separate gallery spaces in the Waldorf West Library. The Gallery Committee is a working committee and will require a degree of dedication.

What Does the Gallery Committee Do? The committee sets the exhibition schedule for CCAA galleries, chooses the artists and/or themes for exhibits, acts as liaison between artists and the CCAA, and assists in the installation of artworks.

Do I Qualify? The only requirements are that you love art, you are willing to volunteer as part of a team, and that you are a member of the Charles County Arts Alliance. Not a member yet? It's easy to join! Click here to download the mail-in membership form.

How Do I Apply? Please send an email to waldorfwestgallery@gmail.com with "Gallery Committee Application" in the subject line. Include your name, contact information, hours available and a brief paragraph about your interest in serving on the CCAA Gallery Committee.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Maryland Arts Day in Annapolis 2013

Maryland Citizens for the Arts (MCA) will hold the 15th Maryland Arts Day in Annapolis on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, and you are invited! Maryland Arts Day is the most important arts advocacy event of the year in Maryland, bringing the many, varied voices of the artistic community together in support of state funding for the arts and the Maryland State Arts Council. The event acts as the only state-wide annual meeting for the Maryland arts community and its supporters, and as such presents a unique networking opportunity and a platform to discuss issues specific to the arts.

The Charles County Arts Alliance (CCAA) will join representatives from arts councils and organizations across the state to advocate for funding of the arts in Maryland.

This year’s keynote speaker is world renowned surgeon, research, teacher and musician, Dr. Charles Limb, Associate Professor, Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins University and Faculty, Peabody Conservatory of Music. The connection Dr. Limb is making between the arts and the development of the human brain is breaking new ground and we look forward to hearing about his work on this interesting subject.

Matt Wigler Jazz Trio will play a set during lunch as we process the experience of the delegation meetings with our lawmakers. Matt Wigler is a remarkable young pianist and composer who fell in love with jazz and blues at age eight, and since then has made a name for himself at festivals and venues throughout the United States.

The registration fee for Maryland Arts Day is $50 and includes: parking, breakfast, lunch, performances, and speakers. There is an “early bird” discount of $15 for those who register by February 6, 2013, so don’t delay! If you need a ride to Annapolis on February 20, please call the CCAA Office and let us know. For more information, and to register, visit www.mdarts.org.

Hope to see you there!
